Marketing Environment Essay Example for Free

Marketing Environment Essay Before we start with marketing environment it is important to know what a market is and how can marketing be defined as. A market is any structure that allows buyers and sellers to exchange any type of goods, services and information. †¢The market facilitates trade and enables the distribution and allocation of resources in a society. †¢Markets allow any tradable item to be evaluated and priced. A market emerges more or less spontaneously or is constructed deliberately by human interaction in order. †¢Marketing can basically be looked upon as the interaction between marketing mix variables and environmental variables. †¢It is only with the help of marketing variables, that the market managers tackle the environmental variables. †¢Marketing is an ongoing process of planning and executing the marketing mix for products, services or ideas to create exchange between individuals and organizations. According to Kotler â€Å"Marketing is a social and managerial process by which individuals and groups obtains what they need and want through creating, offering and exchanging products of value with others†. The American Marketing Association defines marketing as:- â€Å"The performance of business activities that direct the flow of goods and services from producers to consumers or users†. †¢Marketing tends to be seen as a creative industry, which includes advertising, distribution and selling. †¢ It is also concerned with anticipating the customers future needs and wants, which are often discovered through market research. †¢Essentially, marketing is the process of creating or directing an organization to be successful in selling a product or service that people not only desire, but are willing to buy. In the words of Stanton â€Å" Marketing is a total system of interacting business activities designed to plan ,price, promote and distribute want satisfying products and services to present and potential customers†. Therefore good marketing must be able to create a proposition or set of benefits for the end customer that delivers value through products or services. Government agencies, political parties, pressure groups and laws create tremendous pressure and constraints for marketing management. †¢Laws affect product design, pricing and promotion. Irrespective of the political ideologies, intervention in the marketing process has become common in every nation. †¢The legal environment is also referred to as public policy environment. The vast government network of laws and regulation, policy decisions, government bureaucracy and the legislative processes have varied impact on marketing strategies. †¢Multinationals like Coca Cola and IBM had to flee India during 1977 due to a hostile political environment. The positive political situation has permitted these corporations to again operate in the country. The impact of political and legal forces may be summarized as under: ? Substantial amount of legislation regulating business exists to protect consumers from unfair business practices, to avoid unfair competition, to safeguard small firms and to conserve foreign exchange. ?Marketing managers are required to get full knowledge and understanding of political and legal forces for achieving their goals. Political factors include government regulations and legal issues and define both the formal and informal rules under which the firm must operate. For example †¢Tax policy †¢Employment laws †¢Environmental regulations †¢Trade restrictions and tariffs †¢Political stability †¢Study and knowledge of economic forces is essential to preparing effective marketing plans. †¢Anticipation of future economic conditions will enable the firm to devise appropriate marketing strategies. Under economic environment, a marketing manager generally studies the following factors and trends: †¢Trends in cross national product and real income growth †¢Pattern of income distribution †¢Variations in geographical income distribution and trends †¢Expenditure patterns and trends Trends of consumer savings and how consumers like to hold their savings †¢Borrowing pattern, trends and governmental and legal restrictions †¢Major economic variables Economic factors affect the purchasing power of potential customers and the firms cost of capital. For example †¢Economic growth †¢Interest r ate †¢Exchange rates †¢Inflation rates †¢Economic conditions affect marketing directly because such organizations are themselves a part of the market place. For instance, the costs of all inputs positively respond to upward swing of economic condition. †¢This will affect the output price and consequentially affect the sales.

Destiny, Fate, Free Will and Free Choice in Oedipus the King - The Fate

The Fate of Oedipus in Oedipus the King    In "Oedipus the King" there comes a point in the play where Oedipus learns something that plays an important role throughout the play.  Ã‚   He learns from a   oracle that he will eventually kill his own Father and sleep with his own mother.   As one could imagine this is a shock to Oedipus, and he does not believe the oracle.   However, he cannot prevent any of this from happening because it is his fate.   Oedipus is a victim of circumstances beyond his control, his life had already been planned by the Greek Gods.      Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Throughout the whole play there are references made to many of the ancient Greek Gods, for example, Apollo, Zeus, Dionysis, and Artemis are discussed quite often.   In ancient Greece the people believed that if anything happened one of the god's had a reason for it.   Each god was related to one specific thing like Poseidon being the god of the sea.   They thought that if there was a tidal wave or a hurricane it was because Poseidon was angry at them.   This is the basis for my assumption that Oedipus had no control over his fate.      Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   First of all, when Oedipus is just a baby his father, King Laius of Thebes, is told in an oracle that his own son will kill him.   So, with the agreement of his wife, Jocasta, the baby's feet are pinioned, and it's given to a slave who is supposed to leave it to die on Mt. Cithaeron. However, the slave feels sorry for the baby, and gives it to a fellow shepherd from Corinth. The shepherd from Corinth presented the baby to the childless King of Corinth, who is Polybus, and he brings him up as his own. He gives him the name Oedipus, whi... ...d emotions of all the characters in the play.   While doing so Oedipus could in no way control his own fate.   The god's mislead him, and did not allow him to keep from his destiny.   Oedipus was indeed a victim.   A victim of circumstances beyond his control, and it just goes to show that it is impossible for someone to escape their own fate.    Works cited and Consulted: Murray, Robert D. Natural Progression: Dissent to Disagreement

Boorstin discusses the distinction between dissent and disagreement, and deems one to be a dangerous cancer, and the other to be the life blood of social commentary. Despite Boorstin’s claim that dissent is the ugly mutation of disagreement, dissent is actually the more powerful, radical predecessor to disagreement. Dissent is the opposition based off of an unpopular opinion, whereas disagreement is an opposition to more socially explored issue. Disagreement is the safe way to bring about change, a passive and fast moving path as you have support behind you. In the beginning of the women’s suffrage movement, the challenge they proposed to society wasn’t a simple disagreement, but a radical dissention. Until it became a popularized notion, women’s suffragettes were considered to be out for their own personal amusement, and not for the betterment of a society. Once enough support had been gathered behind the movement, the ideas that had once been considered dangerous were no longer all that socially unacceptable. This is not to say, however, that disagreement is not a worthwhile pursuit, it is in that the seed of dissention must be continued to be carried out, but it is the safer method. The argument against dissention is, a minority opinion should not be supported so as not to disturb the social waters. However, it is necessary for dissent to occur for disagreement to develop and for society to change. Without radical opposition to the current social norms, society will never move beyond its current state. Progress is necessary in human society. In other words, rather than being a cancer of argument, dissention is the necessary struggle before the art of disagreement. It is a necessary part of the social plotting process.

The Perspective On Demography And Its Effects On The...

Every aspect on demography comes into play when combined into unison from the perspective of a person’s environment. Factors such as age, ethnicity, gender and class are highly important in shaping a person’s environment, where a different combination is met with a distinct response, thus placing great emphasis on the understanding of intersectionality through the lens of the sociological imagination. Through social ecology, intersectionality and the sociological imagination intertwines together to connect social issues and environmental problems as interrelated, where to solve one side, the other side can not be ignored. To help protect our environment, we must begin to consider beyond the industry cultures, but on the combination of all our carbon footprint’s effect on the environment. While equality is important, does all the countries have to reach the standard of Western societies, instead for Western society to meet the developing countries somewhere in the middle. Perhaps Eurocentrism is not so great after all when its existence is everywhere. The China Price provides an excellent example of the consequences of the industrial culture prominent in many Western countries, in which this culture takes advantage of the poor and marginalized groups for the economy to prosper, as shown by the abundance of goods made from China. The environment in many cities are covered with smog due to all the manufacturing and its byproducts going on in China, and through this means,Show MoreRelatedRole Of The Cultural Perspective When Dealing With Conflict1029 Words   |  5 PagesFor any international organization, understanding cultural differences is very significant in the global context. Connote and Denote - Commonly Confused Words

The verb connote means to suggest, imply, or signify indirectly. The verb denote means to indicate, serve as a sign of (something), or signify directly. Examples: The word train, which denotes transportation, also connotes old-fashioned travel, perhaps the nineteenth century by association, maybe a sort of romanticism of traveling, even mystery, exoticism, and intrigue, as in the Orient Express; or in another vein, slowness, noise, pollution, crowds, and the like.(Mark Gottdiener, The Theming of America, 1997)[I]n English and other languages, the high-front vowel ee often seems to connote small, as in teeny-weeny.(Jack Rosenthal, From Arf to Zap. The New York Times, June 30, 1985)Contrary to the popular misuse of the term to denote a computer criminal, a hacker is someone who solves a problem in a clever or little-known way.(Adam Pash and Gina Trapani, Lifehacker, 2011)[T]he Lenovo rep used the term rip and flip to denote how the screen can be removed and reconfigured. I’m not sure whether the term will stick, but that’s basically the near future of portable computing: your screen detaches from the keyboard to be used as a tablet for fun or mobility, and then docks back into the keyboard when you need to do some work.(Doug Aamoth, The Phrase ‘Rip and Flip’ Basically Sums Up the Near Future of Portable Computing. Time, January 7, 2013) Usage Notes: A word is said to connote something if it suggests or implies secondary meanings/associations/emotions additional to (or other than) its primary or literal meaning. A word is said to denote something if it indicates, signifies or, simply, means it. . . .To use connote for denote is a common looseness; to use denote for connote is plain wrong.(B.A. Phythian, A Concise Dictionary of Confusables. John Wiley Sons, 1990)Denote is rarely if ever misused. Connote, however, is becoming rarer by the day in its traditional sense, illustrated here: In careful usage, notoriety carries a connotation of wichedness, evil, or gravely bad conduct. James J. Kirkpatrick, A Little Refresher Course, Tulsa World, 25 Nov. 1996, at A8. . . .And connotate. *Connotate is a needless variant of connote.(Bryan A. Garner, Garners Modern American Usage. Oxford University Press, 2009)The confusion lies in these signifying senses, for denote describes the relation between the expression and the thing it conventiona lly names, whereas connote describes the relation between the word and the images or associations it evokes:  ...the term leisure, as here used, does not connote indolence or quiescence. —Thorstein Veblen, The Theory of the Leisure Class, The American Heritage Guide to Contemporary Usage and Style, Houghton Mifflin, 2005. Generic Products Market Prospects in the Age of Marketing and

Essays on Generic Products Market Prospects in the Age of Marketing and Dominance of Branded Products Statistics Project ï » ¿ Business Report The modern times are regarded as the era of increasing reliance on brands and marketing, however generic products are still not an obsolete concept, as according to primary research conducted by North Star in order to explore the market and create a feasibility report, this market holds a potential to be tested and profited from. Other firms in this business sector have benefited greatly, and hence it is worth taking the risk. The results of the mail survey conducted by North Star in August are as follows: Question All Consumers Largest Consumers Have you purchased a food generic product (such as canned fruit and vegetables) in the last month 36% Yes 64% No 29% Yes 71% No Was this the first time you had purchased a food generic product 18% Yes 82% No 20% Yes 80% No Have you purchased a non-food generic product (such as paper towels or soaps) in the last month 60% Yes 40% No 59% Yes 41% No Was this the first time you had purchased a non-food generic product 5% Yes 95% No 7% Yes 93% No When these consumers were inquired about their likely reaction to certain generic products at being offered 30% saving is as follows: Product YES (%) NO (%) DON’T USE (%) Bar of Soap 43 57 0 Deodorant 31 67 2 Ammonia 80 10 10 Chili 34 52 14 Canned Ham 19 44 37 Frozen Vegetables 54 39 16 This response indicates that the market for non-food generic products is stronger and more reliable than food generic products, since the people are already familiar with the product as 59-60% consumers state that they already purchase non-food generic products as compared to 29-30% for food generic products, and furthermore approximately 93-95% state that it is not the first time they have purchased non-food generic products while 80-82% have purchases food generics more than once. However, this does not indicate that all non-food generics would be successful or all food generics would suffer disappointment, because further breakdown into products shows that the non-food items produced by North Star are not all likely to get a positive response, even after being offered a 30% price reduction, a bar of soap is likely to be purchased by 43% consumers, deodorant is further less at 31% only, however ammonia has the possibility of being purchased by 80% consumers. When considering food items, the frozen vegetables gained a relatively better response and thus stand at 54% respondents answering affirmative. Furthermore, personal observation of 20 arbitrarily selected supermarket chains depicted that the distribution channel would not be a problem, since 39 stores stocked generic products, and a high proportion of 37 out of these 39 stores currently stocked 100 or more generic items, this is also substantiated by Edward and McCleary who state that 86% stores nationwide (Rauch and McCleary, 2005, 119), and since the market share of generic products shows a positive trend as obvious in the Figure 1 below, the market of generic products shows a sharply positive trend for the 6 goods produced by North Star (Gary, 2007, 1027-1030): According to this trend and H. R. Nolan the tendency of large manufacturers considering the option of producing generic products has increased significantly, either because of the growing market or idle capacity which could be utilized for the creation of non-brand commodities (Nolan, 2006, 35). Furthermore, the future prediction of observers’ state that this trend would move up to 25% in the coming five years, and this is an astronomical increase which could not be ignored if the firm is looking for market growth opportunities (Rauch and McCleary, 2005, 120). In addition, the supermarkets have also recognized this increasing trend, and have thus started to allot increased space on shelves to generic and non-brand products (Rauch and McCleary, 2005, 119). In order to further check the feasibility of transition to this sector of business, secondary research also provides data which could help North Star immensely. Generic products is not an unexplored market when it comes to larger firms, renowned companies like ‘Alcoa’ which earns a good name owing to their specialty ‘Reynolds’s wrap aluminum foil’ and ‘Chicken of the Sea’ which is known for their canned tuna are also an established name in the production of generic commodities (Consumer Affairs, 2005). Studies reveal that despite the dramatic increase and potential in this market, there is still a long way to go for it to become a common purchase for consumers, and it has been found that standardized goods receive a better response from consumers as compared to differentiated products (Prendergast and Marr, 1997). Therefore, North Star should focus on the production of standardized goods, as also obvious through primary research that mai n area of focus should be Ammonia and Frozen Vegetables, which got the greatest positive response, both these goods are standardized, and are thus likely as a start off. It would help North Star to evade the costs of advertising which are incurred when branding and marketing the product. The main target of North Star should be budget conscious consumers, especially in the contemporary times of deepening economic recession, when incomes are low and consumers look for better quality products of low prices, hence catering to this market would be beneficial, in addition if the generic products are of good quality, then it would attract the consumers who focus more on quality than branding (Shaw, 2002). As an initial step, the main focus of the company should remain the production of Ammonia and Frozen Vegetables, however this does not suggest that the other goods in the product range should be ignored, the market for the generic production of the remaining four commodities should be undertaken, since the growing market entails that the purchase of generic products gives an opportunity to consumers to improve living standards while keeping the budget low (Peters, 2010), and if North Star takes advantage of this opportunity in time, then it would translate into profits an d sustenance for the company. Financial Accounting Enterprise Bargaining Agreements

Question: Discuss about the Financial Accounting for Enterprise Bargaining Agreements. Answer: 1. With the current laws in place, is based on the parties who have promoted enterprise bargaining agreements that are propose in nature between them or go on for a voting pattern. When it comes to Fair Work Australia, it evaluates them for providing approval ahead. Based under the Fair Work Act of 2009, the agreements now termed as enterprise agreements, registered with Fair Work Australia to monitor entitlements in contrast to the modern award, and assessed if the Act is not breach. When it comes to Australian labor law, the industrial reform that happened in 2006, referred as "Work Choices. State industrial legislation can play a vital role in prescribing agreements that are collective in nature, but the implementation of the Work Choices reform will prevent the happening of such an event (Alan, 2014). It needs to be considering that the time from when the Fair Work Act was enact; parties that are related to Australian agreements can move to Fair Work Australia for lodging the agreement to have approval. Before a member of the tribunal approves an enterprise the requirement is that the employees those are employed agreement context will positioned in a better stage if the employment is under a valid award (Alan, 2014). Many of those involved in research of corporate governance applies to Australia and have the tendency to grab huge data that is empirical in nature and pertains to topic that are of interest. However, since the 1990s, there is concentration of shareholders that concerns listed market although a major chunk of the economic activity happens outside the niche of the market. (Dignam, 2014). Hence as indicated by the senior Accountant, the change in treating the expenses is highly relevant to the cause of maintaining ethics and fairness in the organizational practice. How ever, the biased based on the priority as referenced through seniority is not the sole contributor to assign the memorandum for change but a collective reform suits the organizational perspective as indicated in the context referred to the Employee Bargaining Agreement but forward by the senior management and staff of the organization. As based on the recommendations of the ASX Corporate Governance Council Principles and Recommendations, the statement of corporate governance of entities that are Listed focus on their governance and infrastructure not as document of compliance and but should view opportunity to project that the management are tuned to deliver the utility of having corporate governance arrangements that is effective in nature with proper communication to holders of security and even pertains to other businesses that discloses community investment and portrays the approach in terms of corporate governance and operation. 2. Laying solid foundations for management and oversight, it is evident that the organizations can alter and represent their business operations and practices as with the need of the business. A listed entity in any market should structure and reveal the concerned roles, as well as responsibilities of its operation to deliver sustainable profits for an organization. Hence, delivering a more accurate and responsive mode of recording the flow of money in and out of the organization is justified under the context of providing more transparency in the business operations and also enabling the records that could be dynamically monitored, since there are substantial numbers of the retailers that have entered into radical and long-term agreement with the organization (Leo, 2007). As with the compliance of the corporate laws in place, the members, and the inclusive staff of the organization has the complete responsibly to enact the inclusive business process of an organization with the conse nt of the other party involved in the terms of the business. However, getting the bias based on the net sales of the records for the organization does not completely reflect on the actual monitoring needs of the business that may be dependent on the secondary attributes such as Geographical aspects, and other market influences (Yoshiro et. al, 2006). However, since the organization has agreed on building a class of reforms based on the Net sales, the corporate act has a complete reference to agreeing with the terms and conditions that form the internal process of the organization (Maines Wahlen, 2006). 3. Taking securities law and practice as it put to argument that the change is influence by economic liberalization, fragmentation of political and the highlights of growth of legal services and influences (Muchlinski, 1999). Mark Ramseyer, a professor of Harvard had structured a strong vivid argument when he referred that the Japanese law, as well as economy has always been Americanized. With the highlights to his view, rather than an inclusive corporate governance system that is characterize by unique banks, as well as industrial policy that has been floated by the government, (Dharmapala Hines, 2009). The example hence reveals that there is a vital role for the link that exists between shareholder and manager relationships that has been long familiar in liberal countries like the US (Miwa and Ramseyer 2006). However, being in Australia, the laws tend to be more refined and accustomed to delivering a high consistency in corporate governance. The country of Australia is bound by international obligations and has tax treaties with more than 40 countries worldwide. Tax treaties are often referred conventions of tax or double tax agreements (Muchlinski, 1999). They do not allow double taxation and evasion of fiscal and leads to cooperation between Australia, as well as other tax authorities of international stature by enforcement of the valid tax laws. The tax treaty can affect only a resident of Australia or the other treaty country (Koffman MacDonald, 2007). The same stands for domestic trade and business, hence keeping off an accountant in the vision of reduction of taxes could only result in more complications, but managing with a single employee as referred by the organizations seems to be more appropriate term as versioned with the performance of the business (Moffett et. al, 2011). Taking off an accountant is in complete accordance with the corporate law that allows complete access to the organization, which also fea tures total responsibility to retain employees as with the need of the organization.
