This conversation will investigate the occurrences where English as a worldwide language is superseded by impediments. It is critical to take note of that a large portion of individuals utilize English as their second language other than their local language. Individuals whose English as their first language have a favorable position over the other gathering of individuals since they effectively build up the capacity to control the language. This will anyway be disadvantageous to different speakers who have English as their subsequent language and will have numerous issues and burn through the greater part of their time attempting to ace the language. This may make the compromised people to desert their language hence improving annihilation.

The Seniority System How Power is Amassed in Congress
The term seniority system is used to describeà the practice ofà granting special perks and privileges to members of theà U.S. Senateà andà House of Representativesà who have served the longest. The seniority system has been the target of numerous reform initiatives over the years, all of which have failed to prevent the most senior members of Congress from amassing tremendous power. Senior Member Privileges Members with seniority are allowed to choose their own offices and committee assignments. The latter is one of the most important privileges a member of Congress can earn because committeesà are where most of the important legislative work actually happens, not on the floor of the House and Senate. Members with a longer term of service on a committee are also assumed to be senior, and therefore they have more power within the committee. Seniority is also usually, but not always, considered when each party awards committee chairmanships, the most powerful position on a committee. History of the Seniority System The seniority system in Congress dates back to 1911 and a revolt against House Speaker Joseph Cannon,à writes Robert E. Dewhirst in his Encyclopedia of the United States Congress. A seniority system of sorts was already in place, but Cannon nonetheless wielded tremendous power, controlling nearly every aspect governing which bills would be introduced in the House. Leading a reform coalitionà of 42 fellow Republicans, Nebraska representative George Norris introduced a resolution that would remove the Speaker from the Rules Committee, effectively stripping him of all power. Once adopted, the seniority system allowed members of the House to advance and win committee assignments even if the leadership of their party opposed them. Effects of the Seniority System Congress members favor the seniority system because it is seen as a nonpartisan method for selecting committee chairmen, as opposed to a system that employs patronage, cronyism, and favoritism. ââ¬Å"It is not that Congress loves seniority more,â⬠a former House member from Arizona, Stewart Udall, once said, ââ¬Å"but the alternatives less.â⬠The seniority system enhancesà the power of the committee chairs (limited to six years since 1995) because they are no longer beholden to the interests of party leaders. Because of the nature of the terms of office, seniority is more important in the Senate (where the terms are for six years), than in the House of Representatives (where the terms are for only two years). Some of the most powerful leadership positionsââ¬âspeaker of the House and majority leaderââ¬âare elected positions and therefore somewhat immune to the seniority system. Seniority also refers to a legislators social standing in Washington, D.C. The longer a member has served, the better his office location and the more likely he or she will be invited to important parties and other get-togethers. Sinceà there are no term limits for members of Congress, this means members with seniority can, and do, amass great amounts of power and influence. Criticism of the Seniority System Opponents of the seniority system in Congress say it gives advantage to lawmakers from so-called ââ¬Å"safeâ⬠districts (in which voters overwhelmingly support one political party or the other) and doesnââ¬â¢t necessarily guarantee that the most qualified person will be chair. All it would take to end the seniority system in the Senate, for instance, is a simple majority vote to amend its Rules. Then again, the chances of any member of Congress voting to decrease his or her own is zero to none. Source Dewhirst, Robert E. Encyclopedia of the United States Congress. Actions bring Consequences Essay Example For Students
Actions bring Consequences Essay Actions bring Consequences The concept of greed and its consequences is heavily evident in modern-day society, and is one which is characterised as a Deadly Sin. The excessive desire to obtain power, money, love or any other object is defined as greed. Greed is a feeling that is intrinsic in human society and one which brings about consequences. Greed is often a motivation for people to do things that they would normally be unlikely to even attempt, yet greed can motivate people to take extreme measures in order to obtain the object of their desire. This conclusion is evident in William Shakespeares Macbeth, a tragedy in which the protagonist is consumed by greed. The events throughout the course of the play turn Macbeth from a worthy Gentleman I. ii. 24 to a man who believes he has lived long enough: my way of life/Is fallen into the sere V. iii. 22-23. The concept of greed is also explored throughout Wall Street 1987 by Oliver Stone, a text in which the ideology of Greed is Good is explored and evaluated in depth through the corporate arena of the 1980s. Greed is a concept which can be represented through various means, including the use of darkness to symbolize greed, and the use of soliloquies to demonstrate how greed can destroy a person. Greed, ultimately, has consequences and far reaching impacts on society and the individuals involved. The instigation of greed and the ultimate cause of Macbeths downfall throughout Shakespeares Macbeth is commonly accepted to be Macbeths meetings with the Three Witches. Macbeth, the protagonist, along with Banquo, another character, meet with Three Witches, whom he describes as imperfect speakers I. iii. 71. This meeting is the basis of the entire play, as Macbeth is greeted as thane of Glamisà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦thane of Cawdorà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦King Hereafter I. iii. 49-51. These prophecies, described by Macbeth as a prophetic greeting I. iii. 79, incite Macbeth and his wife to commit multiple murders. Macbeth ponders these words, and truly believes that the witches have supernatural powers Two truths are told/As happy prologues to the swelling act/Of the imperial theme I. ii. 130-132. Macbeth is in inner turmoil about these prophecies, as he is unsure whether to act or not in order to become King If chance will have me king, why, chance may crown me/Without my stir I. iii. 147-148. However, only the audience are aware of this inner turmoil, as Macbeth voices his fears in an aside. Right from the beginning of the play, it is evident that the Witches and their prophecies are associated with evil and the unnatural. In Scene 1 of Act 1, the witches meet in a storm, with thunder and lightning. The use of the storm is symbolic for the unnatural, as well as foreshadowing of the evil and murky events to come. The witches are continuously associated with the supernatural throughout their appearances in the play, most likely due to the fact that the supernatural featured heavily in Elizabethan society, the context in which the play was written. Ultimately, the actions taken as a result of greed bring about detrimental consequences. Although Macbeths meeting with the witches essentially turns Macbeths ambition into greed, he is unwilling to commit the act which he believes would fulfil his greed. Macbeths inner turmoil is evident in Act I, Scene vii, where Macbeth, in a soliloquy, states If it were done when tis doneà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦this blow might be the be-all and end all ll 1-5, implying that he is willing to commit the murder of Duncan, if ti would have no negative consequences. However, later in this soliloquy, Macbeth states that as his host/ Who should against his murderer shut the door/ Not bear the knife myself. ll 14-16. This statement is symbolic of Macbeths confusion about whether he should commit regicide or not. He believes that he should kill Macbeth if he would gain from it, yet he still believes in honour and pride, as is evident from his actions in a previous battle For brave Macbethà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â¬ well he deserves that nameà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â¬ /Disdaining fortune, with his brandished steel/Which smoked with bloody execution/ Like valours minion carved out his passage I. ii. 16-19. Macbeths role reversal and thoughts about the murder of Duncan are demonstrated at the start of the play, when the Weird Sisters foreshadow the events of the play, by stating that Fair is foul, and foul is fair I. i. Macbeth also periodically displays a sense of ambition and greed, with no qualms. In Scene 4 of Act 1, Malcolm is revealed as the Prince of Cumberland, and the heir to the throne. Macbeth realises that The Prince of Cumberland! That is a step/On which I must fall down, or else oerleap,/For in my way it lies lines 49-51. In this case, it is evident that Macbeth truly believes in becoming King, throu gh whatever means possible. In this scene, it is also evident that the use of darkness symbolises greed and evil acts, as Macbeth asks for Stars, hide your fire/Let not light see my black and deep desires lines 51-52. Landscape Architecture As A Career EssayMy way of life/Is falln into the sere, the yellow leaf,/And that which should accompany old age,/As honor, love, obedience, troops of friends, I must not look to have, but, in their stead,/Curses, not loud but deep, mouth-honor, breath/Which the poor heart would fain deny and dare not. V. iii. 22-28. Essentially, Macbeth has realised that his deeds have been to his detriment, as he has lost his honour, friends and love. He has lost all that he has gained throughout his life, and he doesnt have what should accompany old age. Macbeths downfall is a consequence of his actions earlier in the play. In Macbeth, Lady Macbeth also suffers severe consequences as a result of her overwhelming guilt. Her original bravado and cold mentality Fill me, from the crown to the toe, top-full/Of direst cruelty and That which hath made them drunk hath made me bold , gives way to insanity and paranoia. Lady Macbeth starts to see visions, as Macbeth has, visualising blood on her hands, which a little water cannot wash off Out, damned spotà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦Yet who would have though the old man to/Have so much blood in him? Vi. 34, 38-39. Lady Macbeth is Troubled with thick coming fancies,/That keep her from her rest V. iii. 38-39, and she eventually and apparently commits suicide: The Queen, my Lord, is dead V. v. 16. The greed of Lady Macbeth has had consequences, on herself as an individual, as it has driven her to madness and suicide. Similarly, in Wall Street, Bud Fox is arrested, on suspicion of insider trading, as a result of his greed and the actions that came about from his greed You are under arrest, Mr Fox, for conspiracy to commit securities fraud, and for violation of the Insider trading actà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦. However, as with Macbeth, Bud does regain some of his lost honour by providing evidence against Gekko, as he believes its the right thing to do. It is evident through both Macbeth and Wall Street that actions have consequences on the individual. As well as individual consequences, greed also affects society at large. In Macbeth, Macbeths actions divide Scotland and cause Malcolm and Macduff to raise an army against their own people. Essentially, Macbeth causes a civil war. Malcolm states that Old Siward, with ten thousand warlike men,à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦was setting forth IV. ii. 134-135, implying that he will stand with Siward against Macbeth, in a battle. Malcolm also states Bleed, bleed, poor country! IV. ii. 32, lamenting that Scotland is suffering from terrible wounds because of Macbeths tyrannical rule. The society at large is also affected by greed and greedy actions in Wall Street, as the stockholders who invest in Gekkos company lose their money due to the falling share price of Bluetsar Airlines. This fact isnt implicitly stated in the text, however it is alluded to in the text. Society is affected by the actions of individuals, like a ripple effect, in which the actions of one slowly reach tendrils out to all parts of society. It can be seen that in MacbethÃâà ¸ Macbeth divides Scotland and rules tyrannically, and in Wall Street, Gekko and Fox lose millions for their stockholders, a far contrast to the 12 billion dollars that Gekko previously made. It is evident that society is affected by greed, whether it be the collective greed of society, or individual greed. Actions taken as a result of greed are evident in both Macbeth and Wall Street and their far-reaching consequences are also explored in-depth. Macbeth manages to cause his own downfall through greed, and similarly, Bud Fox unwittingly also engineers his own downfall by submitting to the all-consuming power of greed. The concept of greed and its consequences are accurately represented through a variety of techniques in both texts, and the concept can be explained in one line: Isaac Newtons law, Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

To Each Waste Its Dumping Site
Introduction Globalization process has had several impacts on the social economic and political spheres. The effects of globalization have really been debated on by several scholars and other interest groups who have always questioned its effects on the human beings and the environment at large. For example some people have always argued that it has done more harm than good to the developing countries, while others also contend that it has enabled the developing countries advance socially, politically and also economically.Advertising We will write a custom article sample on To Each Waste Its Dumping Site specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Baumanââ¬â¢s Arguments on Wasted Lives Zygmunt Bauman is one of those people who have made critical analysis of globalization. According to him, globalization has led to a lot of trouble to human beings. The following are his arguments about globalization. Globalization has been discussed so mu ch in the current political discourses but very little has been done by various stakeholders to formulate laws that can govern it. Increasing Cases of International Crimes Criminal cases are increasingly becoming international yet there are no effective laws to curb its spread. Criminals have become very difficult to deal with simply because they have got a lot of resources which they use to protect themselves from penalties. The government has since resorted to dealing with minor cases involving immigrants who engage in petty offences such as violence and petty theft. In addition to this, the global environment gives the criminals a chance to interact freely and do business just like ordinary citizens and this has also been attributed to lack of effective international laws. The international laws that are used to govern globalization have been extensively abused by various countries especially the developed ones who have always used it as an avenue to defend their inhuman actions against the developing countries. The international community has also failed to deal with its obligations. They tend to shy away from the complicated problems and issues but they instead focus on the things they can achieve easily in order to disguise people that they are indeed working had to save human beings. Refugee Problem in Developed Countries Many people from developing countries have always found there way to the developed countries like USA through government support. This has always been done without the consultation of the people who are likely to be directly affected by the influx of immigrants in their country. The process of colonization also led to the division of the world into various artificial territorial boundaries. Apart from this, a lot of wealth was drawn from the countries which were colonized by the European countries. This led to such countries remaining economically poor while the European countries developed. The post colonial period saw several attempt s by the liberated countries to transform themselves from colonial domination to self governance. In the process of transformation, they also developed security measures to curb international crime. The manner this has been done in most African countries is questionable. For example security is always tight at the international entrance and exit routes like air ports while the local boarders remain porous and people can easily sneak in illegal things into a given country.Advertising Looking for article on government? Human waste has been noted to be on the increase and it has actually reached its optimum level. Developing countries in Africa have not been spared because they also received modernity which produces these wastes. They however lack the capacity to handle these wa stes. African countries have been faced by many challenges especially poverty and civil wars. The Europeans have dominated the investments in Africa hence Africans cannot compete with them favorably in trade. This has led to massive unemployment. Civil wars, terrorism and rebels have strained the economies of some developing countries. The developing countries have been seen to be only excelling in the production of refugees. It has been realized that most of developing countries create problems for themselves locally and then they seek international assistance. Challenges Faced by Refugees Refugees who migrate to USA have always faced many challenges and they always lack the chance to be fully integrated into the new world. They have always been seen as human wastes that cannot bring any positive change. Since the dumping places are now over stretched due to a high production of human waste, the refugees are now left to stay in squalid conditions in their territories. The humanitar ians who have always claimed to be main people helping refugees have also done nothing good to help them improve their status. By simply removing them away from the rebels they are actually assisting the rebels to continue being extremists. They should negotiate with the rebels in order to provide a long term solution to the conflicts. The government of USA has not been keen to help the black population in America and it has always used their residential places as one of their dumping places. Areas inhabited by many blacks are being subjected to a lot of inhuman treatment. For example security measures have been very tight in their towns not because they are being protected but just to ensure that they do not engage in criminal activities. There is a general suspicion that the black communities in US are criminals and the government is doing everything possible to quarantine the movement of the black youths who it believes can breach security. The schools accessed by most of the bla cks can only be compared to correctional facilities. The education offered to them cannot help them to achieve any thing good in life. Many prisons are being constructed at the expense of providing better services to the community. Economic Development Many countries trying to develop their economies have always looked for guidance from USA but this has not been successful. Even the US government has faced several economic challenges which it is grappling with. The countries that seek financial assistance from them are always given the assistance with several conditions attached to them.Advertising We will write a custom article sample on To Each Waste Its Dumping Site specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More This has been used as a mechanism to continue exploiting the developing countries. For example the loans and grants from the developed countries are always very expensive for most of the developing countries to service. Changing Glo bal Relationships For several years the global relationship among various countries has revolved around commercial activities. This mutual relationship is slowly taking a new dimension and various countries are now ganging against each other for the purpose of military confrontation. Terrorism is also increasing and some countries have been seen to favor its course by funding the rebels. It has also been realized that most of the conflicts that we currently have between some countries have been championed by external forces. Various governments have also failed to honor the law and this has led to many inter tribal wars in many developing countries. Conclusion From the above discussion it is clear that globalization has continued to extend the European hegemony in the developing countries and they simply treat Africans as wasted human beings. The only way Africans can solve these problems is through finding domestic solutions to their problems. Works Cited Bauman, Zygmunt. Wasted li ves: modernity and its outcasts. New York: Polity, 2004. Free Essays on Guerrilla Warfare In Colombia
This research paper is based on the ongoing violence and war led by the guerrilla and organized groups in Colombia. Each of these groups has taken part in acts of civil disobedience, activism, and terrorism. These acts have not only affected the government, but also the country and its people, they have caused an enormous amount of death and destruction throughout the last fifty years. The specific situation that is going to be addressed occurred in June of 2002. According to the article which appeared in Colombia Journal Online, "more than 150 local government officials have resigned due to death threats from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC)." However, that is not the only problem; the article also stated that the Army for National Liberation (ELN) as well as the United Self-Defense Units of Colombia (AUC) have also threatened these political figures by announcing that "any local official who resigns because of the threats [from the FARC] would be considered a `mili tary target'" (Leech "FARC Targets Local Officials"). Guerrilla groups have been in existence for a long time; but they have become much more violent over the years. Based on the surveys and interviews that were done, it was evident that most people do not agree with the ongoing violence that occurs in Colombia. According to one of the interviewees, "you don't always have to resort to violence - there are better ways to get your point across" (Castillo). Also, they all agreed that trafficking drugs, kidnapping, extortion, etc. were not justifiable ways to raise funds. It was said, by the other interviewee that although "trafficking drugs is going to make them millions of dollars, it is also going to take millions of lives and it is truly not worth it" (Bolivar). Also, the quotes that were taken from the newspapers, news magazines, and the journal agreed with the paper's point of view. They all included examples which were stated in this paper. Each art... Incest and Exogamy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Incest and Exogamy - Essay Example The ambiguity of the incest taboo that has for so long confused anthropologists is still not reveled whilst it is seen as establishing a structure of exchanges among separate groups. As it is practically universal---some constraints on marriage are found in each and every society---the incest taboo has the impulsiveness of a natural desire. However since it is not a biological need (and Lvi-Strauss demonstrates this extremely convincingly via the case of cross-cousin marriage, which is a desire and not a need, while parallel-cousin marriage is better choice as that could be done to fulfill need and just a desire ) it partakes of a law, of a cultural obligation. The incest taboo is not so much a harmful restriction on the pool of marriage partners as a assurance that one group will gives its daughters to another group to fulfill the needs , as long as that the other group does the same. For Lvi-Strauss---and this is for the most part vital for family theory --the incest taboo prevents the marital family from dying in on itself as well as gives assurance to the fact that the wider society will definitely take preference over the family by means of marrying out side the family this group could be called non-family groups. Philosophically, incest asks a essential question of our changing mores: not just what is normal as well as what is deviant, it also asks if such a thing as deviance really exists at all in the r

Globalization - Assignment Example $500 million to renewable energy is a $500 million advantage that renewable energy firms get over firms that are not going that direction: It alters the market dynamic, creating another interaction. The equation, ââ¬Å"Early 2008 Government stimulus program (worth $50 Billion USD) (political) x Big four Australian Banks kept credit lines open (business) = Cash Flowâ⬠, expresses yet another element of the interaction. However, it ignores that the ties between these things are even more incestuous than they seem: Since banks in industrialized countries are so regulated by the government, with interest rates controlled and currency given the full faith and credit of the government, the equation can be changed to ââ¬Å"(Government + business) * (Business + government)â⬠= cash flow. The stimulus program is a solution to the market meltdown, by creating both government-backed monetary sources (pension funds) and business-backed sources (credit lines). The impact on globalizati on is complex: It could involve Australia more in the international market as they return to purchasing; or it could make Australians turn inwards and consolidate internally to the country. This event certainly, however, diverges the Australians away from the world, representing the state as an agent countervailing against market forces and globalist interaction. It attempts to protect the interests of Australian consumers, ââ¬Å"a safety measure, a precaution against imminent financial disasterâ⬠. In this sense, it is designed to keep Australians away from the fate of the world, which at the moment is poverty. This brings to mind an obvious question: Insofar as globalization keys all markets together, both in boom and in bust, how justifiable is

Marketing Environment Essay Example for Free
Marketing Environment Essay Before we start with marketing environment it is important to know what a market is and how can marketing be defined as. A market is any structure that allows buyers and sellers to exchange any type of goods, services and information. â⬠¢The market facilitates trade and enables the distribution and allocation of resources in a society. â⬠¢Markets allow any tradable item to be evaluated and priced. A market emerges more or less spontaneously or is constructed deliberately by human interaction in order. â⬠¢Marketing can basically be looked upon as the interaction between marketing mix variables and environmental variables. â⬠¢It is only with the help of marketing variables, that the market managers tackle the environmental variables. â⬠¢Marketing is an ongoing process of planning and executing the marketing mix for products, services or ideas to create exchange between individuals and organizations. According to Kotler ââ¬Å"Marketing is a social and managerial process by which individuals and groups obtains what they need and want through creating, offering and exchanging products of value with othersâ⬠. The American Marketing Association defines marketing as:- ââ¬Å"The performance of business activities that direct the flow of goods and services from producers to consumers or usersâ⬠. â⬠¢Marketing tends to be seen as a creative industry, which includes advertising, distribution and selling. â⬠¢ It is also concerned with anticipating the customers future needs and wants, which are often discovered through market research. â⬠¢Essentially, marketing is the process of creating or directing an organization to be successful in selling a product or service that people not only desire, but are willing to buy. In the words of Stanton ââ¬Å" Marketing is a total system of interacting business activities designed to plan ,price, promote and distribute want satisfying products and services to present and potential customersâ⬠. Therefore good marketing must be able to create a proposition or set of benefits for the end customer that delivers value through products or services. Government agencies, political parties, pressure groups and laws create tremendous pressure and constraints for marketing management. â⬠¢Laws affect product design, pricing and promotion. Irrespective of the political ideologies, intervention in the marketing process has become common in every nation. â⬠¢The legal environment is also referred to as public policy environment. The vast government network of laws and regulation, policy decisions, government bureaucracy and the legislative processes have varied impact on marketing strategies. â⬠¢Multinationals like Coca Cola and IBM had to flee India during 1977 due to a hostile political environment. The positive political situation has permitted these corporations to again operate in the country. The impact of political and legal forces may be summarized as under: ? Substantial amount of legislation regulating business exists to protect consumers from unfair business practices, to avoid unfair competition, to safeguard small firms and to conserve foreign exchange. ?Marketing managers are required to get full knowledge and understanding of political and legal forces for achieving their goals. Political factors include government regulations and legal issues and define both the formal and informal rules under which the firm must operate. For example â⬠¢Tax policy â⬠¢Employment laws â⬠¢Environmental regulations â⬠¢Trade restrictions and tariffs â⬠¢Political stability â⬠¢Study and knowledge of economic forces is essential to preparing effective marketing plans. â⬠¢Anticipation of future economic conditions will enable the firm to devise appropriate marketing strategies. Under economic environment, a marketing manager generally studies the following factors and trends: â⬠¢Trends in cross national product and real income growth â⬠¢Pattern of income distribution â⬠¢Variations in geographical income distribution and trends â⬠¢Expenditure patterns and trends Trends of consumer savings and how consumers like to hold their savings â⬠¢Borrowing pattern, trends and governmental and legal restrictions â⬠¢Major economic variables Economic factors affect the purchasing power of potential customers and the firms cost of capital. For example â⬠¢Economic growth â⬠¢Interest r ate â⬠¢Exchange rates â⬠¢Inflation rates â⬠¢Economic conditions affect marketing directly because such organizations are themselves a part of the market place. For instance, the costs of all inputs positively respond to upward swing of economic condition. â⬠¢This will affect the output price and consequentially affect the sales.

Destiny, Fate, Free Will and Free Choice in Oedipus the King - The Fate
The Fate of Oedipus in Oedipus the King à In "Oedipus the King" there comes a point in the play where Oedipus learns something that plays an important role throughout the play.à à He learns from aà oracle that he will eventually kill his own Father and sleep with his own mother.à As one could imagine this is a shock to Oedipus, and he does not believe the oracle.à However, he cannot prevent any of this from happening because it is his fate.à Oedipus is a victim of circumstances beyond his control, his life had already been planned by the Greek Gods. à à à à à à Throughout the whole play there are references made to many of the ancient Greek Gods, for example, Apollo, Zeus, Dionysis, and Artemis are discussed quite often.à In ancient Greece the people believed that if anything happened one of the god's had a reason for it.à Each god was related to one specific thing like Poseidon being the god of the sea.à They thought that if there was a tidal wave or a hurricane it was because Poseidon was angry at them.à This is the basis for my assumption that Oedipus had no control over his fate. à à à à à à First of all, when Oedipus is just a baby his father, King Laius of Thebes, is told in an oracle that his own son will kill him.à So, with the agreement of his wife, Jocasta, the baby's feet are pinioned, and it's given to a slave who is supposed to leave it to die on Mt. Cithaeron. However, the slave feels sorry for the baby, and gives it to a fellow shepherd from Corinth. The shepherd from Corinth presented the baby to the childless King of Corinth, who is Polybus, and he brings him up as his own. He gives him the name Oedipus, whi... ...d emotions of all the characters in the play.à While doing so Oedipus could in no way control his own fate.à The god's mislead him, and did not allow him to keep from his destiny.à Oedipus was indeed a victim.à A victim of circumstances beyond his control, and it just goes to show that it is impossible for someone to escape their own fate. à Works cited and Consulted: Murray, Robert D. Natural Progression: Dissent to Disagreement
Boorstin discusses the distinction between dissent and disagreement, and deems one to be a dangerous cancer, and the other to be the life blood of social commentary. Despite Boorstinââ¬â¢s claim that dissent is the ugly mutation of disagreement, dissent is actually the more powerful, radical predecessor to disagreement. Dissent is the opposition based off of an unpopular opinion, whereas disagreement is an opposition to more socially explored issue. Disagreement is the safe way to bring about change, a passive and fast moving path as you have support behind you. In the beginning of the womenââ¬â¢s suffrage movement, the challenge they proposed to society wasnââ¬â¢t a simple disagreement, but a radical dissention. Until it became a popularized notion, womenââ¬â¢s suffragettes were considered to be out for their own personal amusement, and not for the betterment of a society. Once enough support had been gathered behind the movement, the ideas that had once been considered dangerous were no longer all that socially unacceptable. This is not to say, however, that disagreement is not a worthwhile pursuit, it is in that the seed of dissention must be continued to be carried out, but it is the safer method. The argument against dissention is, a minority opinion should not be supported so as not to disturb the social waters. However, it is necessary for dissent to occur for disagreement to develop and for society to change. Without radical opposition to the current social norms, society will never move beyond its current state. Progress is necessary in human society. In other words, rather than being a cancer of argument, dissention is the necessary struggle before the art of disagreement. It is a necessary part of the social plotting process.

The Perspective On Demography And Its Effects On The...
Every aspect on demography comes into play when combined into unison from the perspective of a personââ¬â¢s environment. Factors such as age, ethnicity, gender and class are highly important in shaping a personââ¬â¢s environment, where a different combination is met with a distinct response, thus placing great emphasis on the understanding of intersectionality through the lens of the sociological imagination. Through social ecology, intersectionality and the sociological imagination intertwines together to connect social issues and environmental problems as interrelated, where to solve one side, the other side can not be ignored. To help protect our environment, we must begin to consider beyond the industry cultures, but on the combination of all our carbon footprintââ¬â¢s effect on the environment. While equality is important, does all the countries have to reach the standard of Western societies, instead for Western society to meet the developing countries somewhere in the middle. Perhaps Eurocentrism is not so great after all when its existence is everywhere. The China Price provides an excellent example of the consequences of the industrial culture prominent in many Western countries, in which this culture takes advantage of the poor and marginalized groups for the economy to prosper, as shown by the abundance of goods made from China. The environment in many cities are covered with smog due to all the manufacturing and its byproducts going on in China, and through this means,Show MoreRelatedRole Of The Cultural Perspective When Dealing With Conflict1029 Words à |à 5 PagesFor any international organization, understanding cultural differences is very significant in the global context. Connote and Denote - Commonly Confused Words
The verb connote means to suggest, imply, or signify indirectly. The verb denote means to indicate, serve as a sign of (something), or signify directly. Examples: The word train, which denotes transportation, also connotes old-fashioned travel, perhaps the nineteenth century by association, maybe a sort of romanticism of traveling, even mystery, exoticism, and intrigue, as in the Orient Express; or in another vein, slowness, noise, pollution, crowds, and the like.(Mark Gottdiener, The Theming of America, 1997)[I]n English and other languages, the high-front vowel ee often seems to connote small, as in teeny-weeny.(Jack Rosenthal, From Arf to Zap. The New York Times, June 30, 1985)Contrary to the popular misuse of the term to denote a computer criminal, a hacker is someone who solves a problem in a clever or little-known way.(Adam Pash and Gina Trapani, Lifehacker, 2011)[T]he Lenovo rep used the term rip and flip to denote how the screen can be removed and reconfigured. Iââ¬â¢m not sure whether the term will stick, but thatââ¬â¢s basically the near future of portable computing: your screen detaches from the keyboard to be used as a tablet for fun or mobility, and then docks back into the keyboard when you need to do some work.(Doug Aamoth, The Phrase ââ¬ËRip and Flipââ¬â¢ Basically Sums Up the Near Future of Portable Computing. Time, January 7, 2013) Usage Notes: A word is said to connote something if it suggests or implies secondary meanings/associations/emotions additional to (or other than) its primary or literal meaning. A word is said to denote something if it indicates, signifies or, simply, means it. . . .To use connote for denote is a common looseness; to use denote for connote is plain wrong.(B.A. Phythian, A Concise Dictionary of Confusables. John Wiley Sons, 1990)Denote is rarely if ever misused. Connote, however, is becoming rarer by the day in its traditional sense, illustrated here: In careful usage, notoriety carries a connotation of wichedness, evil, or gravely bad conduct. James J. Kirkpatrick, A Little Refresher Course, Tulsa World, 25 Nov. 1996, at A8. . . .And connotate. *Connotate is a needless variant of connote.(Bryan A. Garner, Garners Modern American Usage. Oxford University Press, 2009)The confusion lies in these signifying senses, for denote describes the relation between the expression and the thing it conventiona lly names, whereas connote describes the relation between the word and the images or associations it evokes:à ...the term leisure, as here used, does not connote indolence or quiescence. ââ¬âThorstein Veblen, The Theory of the Leisure Class, The American Heritage Guide to Contemporary Usage and Style, Houghton Mifflin, 2005. Generic Products Market Prospects in the Age of Marketing and
Essays on Generic Products Market Prospects in the Age of Marketing and Dominance of Branded Products Statistics Project ï » ¿ Business Report The modern times are regarded as the era of increasing reliance on brands and marketing, however generic products are still not an obsolete concept, as according to primary research conducted by North Star in order to explore the market and create a feasibility report, this market holds a potential to be tested and profited from. Other firms in this business sector have benefited greatly, and hence it is worth taking the risk. The results of the mail survey conducted by North Star in August are as follows: Question All Consumers Largest Consumers Have you purchased a food generic product (such as canned fruit and vegetables) in the last month 36% Yes 64% No 29% Yes 71% No Was this the first time you had purchased a food generic product 18% Yes 82% No 20% Yes 80% No Have you purchased a non-food generic product (such as paper towels or soaps) in the last month 60% Yes 40% No 59% Yes 41% No Was this the first time you had purchased a non-food generic product 5% Yes 95% No 7% Yes 93% No When these consumers were inquired about their likely reaction to certain generic products at being offered 30% saving is as follows: Product YES (%) NO (%) DONââ¬â¢T USE (%) Bar of Soap 43 57 0 Deodorant 31 67 2 Ammonia 80 10 10 Chili 34 52 14 Canned Ham 19 44 37 Frozen Vegetables 54 39 16 This response indicates that the market for non-food generic products is stronger and more reliable than food generic products, since the people are already familiar with the product as 59-60% consumers state that they already purchase non-food generic products as compared to 29-30% for food generic products, and furthermore approximately 93-95% state that it is not the first time they have purchased non-food generic products while 80-82% have purchases food generics more than once. However, this does not indicate that all non-food generics would be successful or all food generics would suffer disappointment, because further breakdown into products shows that the non-food items produced by North Star are not all likely to get a positive response, even after being offered a 30% price reduction, a bar of soap is likely to be purchased by 43% consumers, deodorant is further less at 31% only, however ammonia has the possibility of being purchased by 80% consumers. When considering food items, the frozen vegetables gained a relatively better response and thus stand at 54% respondents answering affirmative. Furthermore, personal observation of 20 arbitrarily selected supermarket chains depicted that the distribution channel would not be a problem, since 39 stores stocked generic products, and a high proportion of 37 out of these 39 stores currently stocked 100 or more generic items, this is also substantiated by Edward and McCleary who state that 86% stores nationwide (Rauch and McCleary, 2005, 119), and since the market share of generic products shows a positive trend as obvious in the Figure 1 below, the market of generic products shows a sharply positive trend for the 6 goods produced by North Star (Gary, 2007, 1027-1030): According to this trend and H. R. Nolan the tendency of large manufacturers considering the option of producing generic products has increased significantly, either because of the growing market or idle capacity which could be utilized for the creation of non-brand commodities (Nolan, 2006, 35). Furthermore, the future prediction of observersââ¬â¢ state that this trend would move up to 25% in the coming five years, and this is an astronomical increase which could not be ignored if the firm is looking for market growth opportunities (Rauch and McCleary, 2005, 120). In addition, the supermarkets have also recognized this increasing trend, and have thus started to allot increased space on shelves to generic and non-brand products (Rauch and McCleary, 2005, 119). In order to further check the feasibility of transition to this sector of business, secondary research also provides data which could help North Star immensely. Generic products is not an unexplored market when it comes to larger firms, renowned companies like ââ¬ËAlcoaââ¬â¢ which earns a good name owing to their specialty ââ¬ËReynoldsââ¬â¢s wrap aluminum foilââ¬â¢ and ââ¬ËChicken of the Seaââ¬â¢ which is known for their canned tuna are also an established name in the production of generic commodities (Consumer Affairs, 2005). Studies reveal that despite the dramatic increase and potential in this market, there is still a long way to go for it to become a common purchase for consumers, and it has been found that standardized goods receive a better response from consumers as compared to differentiated products (Prendergast and Marr, 1997). Therefore, North Star should focus on the production of standardized goods, as also obvious through primary research that mai n area of focus should be Ammonia and Frozen Vegetables, which got the greatest positive response, both these goods are standardized, and are thus likely as a start off. It would help North Star to evade the costs of advertising which are incurred when branding and marketing the product. The main target of North Star should be budget conscious consumers, especially in the contemporary times of deepening economic recession, when incomes are low and consumers look for better quality products of low prices, hence catering to this market would be beneficial, in addition if the generic products are of good quality, then it would attract the consumers who focus more on quality than branding (Shaw, 2002). As an initial step, the main focus of the company should remain the production of Ammonia and Frozen Vegetables, however this does not suggest that the other goods in the product range should be ignored, the market for the generic production of the remaining four commodities should be undertaken, since the growing market entails that the purchase of generic products gives an opportunity to consumers to improve living standards while keeping the budget low (Peters, 2010), and if North Star takes advantage of this opportunity in time, then it would translate into profits an d sustenance for the company. Financial Accounting Enterprise Bargaining Agreements
Question: Discuss about the Financial Accounting for Enterprise Bargaining Agreements. Answer: 1. With the current laws in place, is based on the parties who have promoted enterprise bargaining agreements that are propose in nature between them or go on for a voting pattern. When it comes to Fair Work Australia, it evaluates them for providing approval ahead. Based under the Fair Work Act of 2009, the agreements now termed as enterprise agreements, registered with Fair Work Australia to monitor entitlements in contrast to the modern award, and assessed if the Act is not breach. When it comes to Australian labor law, the industrial reform that happened in 2006, referred as "Work Choices. State industrial legislation can play a vital role in prescribing agreements that are collective in nature, but the implementation of the Work Choices reform will prevent the happening of such an event (Alan, 2014). It needs to be considering that the time from when the Fair Work Act was enact; parties that are related to Australian agreements can move to Fair Work Australia for lodging the agreement to have approval. Before a member of the tribunal approves an enterprise the requirement is that the employees those are employed agreement context will positioned in a better stage if the employment is under a valid award (Alan, 2014). Many of those involved in research of corporate governance applies to Australia and have the tendency to grab huge data that is empirical in nature and pertains to topic that are of interest. However, since the 1990s, there is concentration of shareholders that concerns listed market although a major chunk of the economic activity happens outside the niche of the market. (Dignam, 2014). Hence as indicated by the senior Accountant, the change in treating the expenses is highly relevant to the cause of maintaining ethics and fairness in the organizational practice. How ever, the biased based on the priority as referenced through seniority is not the sole contributor to assign the memorandum for change but a collective reform suits the organizational perspective as indicated in the context referred to the Employee Bargaining Agreement but forward by the senior management and staff of the organization. As based on the recommendations of the ASX Corporate Governance Council Principles and Recommendations, the statement of corporate governance of entities that are Listed focus on their governance and infrastructure not as document of compliance and but should view opportunity to project that the management are tuned to deliver the utility of having corporate governance arrangements that is effective in nature with proper communication to holders of security and even pertains to other businesses that discloses community investment and portrays the approach in terms of corporate governance and operation. 2. Laying solid foundations for management and oversight, it is evident that the organizations can alter and represent their business operations and practices as with the need of the business. A listed entity in any market should structure and reveal the concerned roles, as well as responsibilities of its operation to deliver sustainable profits for an organization. Hence, delivering a more accurate and responsive mode of recording the flow of money in and out of the organization is justified under the context of providing more transparency in the business operations and also enabling the records that could be dynamically monitored, since there are substantial numbers of the retailers that have entered into radical and long-term agreement with the organization (Leo, 2007). As with the compliance of the corporate laws in place, the members, and the inclusive staff of the organization has the complete responsibly to enact the inclusive business process of an organization with the conse nt of the other party involved in the terms of the business. However, getting the bias based on the net sales of the records for the organization does not completely reflect on the actual monitoring needs of the business that may be dependent on the secondary attributes such as Geographical aspects, and other market influences (Yoshiro et. al, 2006). However, since the organization has agreed on building a class of reforms based on the Net sales, the corporate act has a complete reference to agreeing with the terms and conditions that form the internal process of the organization (Maines Wahlen, 2006). 3. Taking securities law and practice as it put to argument that the change is influence by economic liberalization, fragmentation of political and the highlights of growth of legal services and influences (Muchlinski, 1999). Mark Ramseyer, a professor of Harvard had structured a strong vivid argument when he referred that the Japanese law, as well as economy has always been Americanized. With the highlights to his view, rather than an inclusive corporate governance system that is characterize by unique banks, as well as industrial policy that has been floated by the government, (Dharmapala Hines, 2009). The example hence reveals that there is a vital role for the link that exists between shareholder and manager relationships that has been long familiar in liberal countries like the US (Miwa and Ramseyer 2006). However, being in Australia, the laws tend to be more refined and accustomed to delivering a high consistency in corporate governance. The country of Australia is bound by international obligations and has tax treaties with more than 40 countries worldwide. Tax treaties are often referred conventions of tax or double tax agreements (Muchlinski, 1999). They do not allow double taxation and evasion of fiscal and leads to cooperation between Australia, as well as other tax authorities of international stature by enforcement of the valid tax laws. The tax treaty can affect only a resident of Australia or the other treaty country (Koffman MacDonald, 2007). The same stands for domestic trade and business, hence keeping off an accountant in the vision of reduction of taxes could only result in more complications, but managing with a single employee as referred by the organizations seems to be more appropriate term as versioned with the performance of the business (Moffett et. al, 2011). Taking off an accountant is in complete accordance with the corporate law that allows complete access to the organization, which also fea tures total responsibility to retain employees as with the need of the organization. Religion in Australia Essay Example For Students
Religion in Australia Essay Year 11HESS restrictedReligion in AustraliaPractical assignmentPart One-Guest speakers (Lawyers)Everyday as the world is becoming more dangerous, mostly involvingconfliction between countries which result in war and terrorists events, innocent are seeking for asylum, where people escape from persecutionwithin their homeland. High populations of these needy people are enteringAustralia in order renew their life as well a improved environment fortheir children to live and study. However, due to laws people are notallowed to enter Australia without a visa permit, therefore in result thesehomeless people are sent to detention centers where they are kept locked upfor years. Having the government state these people as unlawful people with intentionsof harming Australia and its people, the media are generally spreading therumors about these incidents and people involved. Having to only spreadinformation on what the government have to say and assume, not having torealize that there are still people who are clean and innocent but arefinding a way to live life in peace. The speech of Hannah and Jane giving the insight of the conditions ofBaxter Detention Center had come to be unbelievable and unbearable to look. These high fenced isolated centers holding a huge mass of refugees hasrestricted any lawyers or visitors to enter the centre. Within these thecentre, there would be a lack of green plants having to give no rights ofplanting any. As well inside there would be only a little medical centre, having to have a high population within, people who were sick had to waitfor their turn. The only thing the people could do in there was only watchtelevision, play on computers or only watch the sky as there was no windowin order to view the outside world. These people were given the leaseamount of human rights. The only human rights were acted upon those to getaccepted due to the seeking of refuge from war, persecution discriminationand fears of future life. Not taking notice of any men, women or children, everyone was treated the same like a farm full of animals. Through theprocess of detaining these helpless people, the government of Australia hasfailed to support any matter of need and human rights , but instead doingthe opposite and imprisoning them in these thick high walls. By keepingthem in these centers only makes their life even worst as they cant let goof the vision hold inside them of dramatic events they have seen. Thegovernment doesnt see the bright side of letting these people free intothe country, having people employ more business and able to realize thatthey are rescuing lives from persecution, but instead they are actingagainst what the law states where man and women has the right to live ahappy life. These stories conflict the images that are presented in the media due tothe fact that the only source that is providing the story is through thegovernments views and not what the public have to see for themselves as thearea are restricted and forbidden. As a result from these cruel inhumandetaining, many people of the public are against what the government isdoing to these people, as today children at a young age realizes thesematters. Part Two-Surveys and interviewsThe main purpose of this assignment is to why refugees are being treated inthis way and why they come into out country to seek for asylum. Through theprocess of surveying and interviewing, we will be show what the public hasto say about this matter and also their religious points of view. .u16b1cdf258a8ae35ecc70195fad727c8 , .u16b1cdf258a8ae35ecc70195fad727c8 .postImageUrl , .u16b1cdf258a8ae35ecc70195fad727c8 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u16b1cdf258a8ae35ecc70195fad727c8 , .u16b1cdf258a8ae35ecc70195fad727c8:hover , .u16b1cdf258a8ae35ecc70195fad727c8:visited , .u16b1cdf258a8ae35ecc70195fad727c8:active { border:0!important; } .u16b1cdf258a8ae35ecc70195fad727c8 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u16b1cdf258a8ae35ecc70195fad727c8 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u16b1cdf258a8ae35ecc70195fad727c8:active , .u16b1cdf258a8ae35ecc70195fad727c8:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u16b1cdf258a8ae35ecc70195fad727c8 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u16b1cdf258a8ae35ecc70195fad727c8 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u16b1cdf258a8ae35ecc70195fad727c8 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u16b1cdf258a8ae35ecc70195fad727c8 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u16b1cdf258a8ae35ecc70195fad727c8:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u16b1cdf258a8ae35ecc70195fad727c8 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u16b1cdf258a8ae35ecc70195fad727c8 .u16b1cdf258a8ae35ecc70195fad727c8-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u16b1cdf258a8ae35ecc70195fad727c8:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Date Rape EssayMy aim for surveying about this topic is targeted on the range of differentages, giving each their opinions about this. Soft Drink Industry Essays - Ice Cream Parlors, Ice Cream
Soft Drink Industry Executive Summary The word 'Saturation' does not exist in the dictionary of the U.A.E. Year by year, new products and their competing items have entered into the field and have successfully created a slot for themselves. This phenomenon is greatly supported by the open down policy of the local government to the people coming from other lands for settlement and tourism. Ice creams are a product that has not seen their prime in the U.A.E. It's potential is tapped in a meager form. Not that the commodity is in short supply. There is ample ice-cream available even at the moment. But, there is great scope of habitualizing the inhabitants of this place to consume more of the product, by exploiting the U.A.E. climate to its best potential. This statement vindicates the statistics that while an average person in Australia consumes 36.87 pints of ice cream, and in the United States 30.04 pints, the consumption in U.A.E. is only 6 pints per capita. Thus, even if the consumption is increased by 6 times for a person here, we will still be comparable to Australia and will need more effort to become world leader in consumption. This indicates the amount of vacuum existing in the U.A.E for the growth in the Ice-cream consumption. The bottom line is a 'Difference'. Up until now the ice creams that are being sold in the U.A.E. are mostly the conventional stuff and it will bring a sea change in the minds of consumers about ice creams if they are given something different at affordable prices and at accessible locations. One such company that can meet all these interests is Ben & Jerry's. We are a group of investors now planning to open Ben & Jerry's ice cream parlor. The food and beverage industry has been in a boom. Therefore we plan to make our mark in the industry as the premium ice cream and yoghurt parlor in the country. U.A.E has a multi-cultural environment thus providing a good market for Ben&Jerry's.. Ben&Jerry's is the 'difference' which can fit in the slot to help bring up the per capita consumption of the country. Most of their ice creams are made from fresh fruits, which hardly any other maker has attempted. Introduction & Background The company Ben & Jerry's had its humble beginning more than 70 years ago, when its founders started manufacturing ice cream with a hand - cranked machine. Today, it offers the widest range of ice creams and frozen deserts in packs, including cups, bulks, and cones. The brand enjoys its reputation for successful innovation and development of flavors and its new offerings are eagerly awaited every summer. Current Market Situation The Marketing Environment- The United Arab Emirates has an ice cream market of Dh140 million, yet it has one of the lowest consumption (6.00 per capita/ pints) of ice-cream when compared to Australia which consumes 36.87 per capita / pints and USA 30.04 pints. The ice-cream parlors Baskin Robbins enjoys having a monopoly followed by Haagen-Dazsas and Breslers. There are other non-famous parlors in some shopping centers and malls. Considering that there is two major franchises in the U.A.E market there is a high scope in entering the ice-cream industry. As for the external environment, it is divided in the following manner. Competitive Environment- There is high degree of competition in the foodstuff industry. In the ice-cream industry, the market share is evenly distributed with Nestle being the market leader, followed by Walls and then by Kwality. Recenlty Hag n' Das has also come up with major marketing schemes and are aggressively marketing their ice creams. They have a parlor opened at Al Diyafah Street in Deira. There is no official study to the exact market share. The prices in the parlors are about 10% higher to that of franchises in London and Canada. The other competitors in the family line are Igloo, Unikai, Kimo Cadbury, Mamma- Mia, and also those previously mentioned. Hags n' Das, Cadbury's, Baskin Robbins and have an importation, the rest are local manufacturers. Below mentioned is the approximate market share. Estimates provided by Kwality and Unikai year 1996 Overall market growth 20% on yearly basis Social and Cultural environment- We intend to target our products
